How many hours do you need for learning Spanish?

Learning Spanish, like any other language, is a complicated task that requires time and dedication. Can you learn Spanish in a short time? Well, it depends. It depends on what you consider "little time" you can invest many hours concentrated in a month or less hours distributed throughout the year.

According to the Foreign Service Institute (FSI) of the U.S. Department of State, it takes 600 hours of class time to learn Spanish correctly.

In addition, they also state that Spanish, being a Latin language, falls into the "easy" category where English, French or Italian are also included. Therefore, you can learn this language in one year.

It is important to understand that the basic level is a simple language. However, as we advance and deepen in it, it becomes quite complex.

Factors that influence learning Spanish

There are several factors that will directly affect language acquisition.

  • The most important thing is not the facility to learn languages. Being more or less clever is almost irrelevant when compared to other circumstances.
  • Your own willingness to approach a new language. At first it's hard to learn Spanish. However, if you're really looking forward to it, it's a task that can be solved quite quickly.
  • The knowledge you have about your own language and about others that have the same root also has an influence.
  • Learning also depends on where it takes place: if it is done in an English-speaking country or if you travel to Spain to learn Spanish. It also depends on the language school itself.
