Plans for enjoying Madrid in winter (and practising Spanish)

Madrid has very cold winters. However, it is a city that always has something to do and enjoy. As well as in the city itself, even in the region's towns and villages. Here we are going to give you some ideas and tips for enjoying Madrid in winter. And also for you to take advantage of these plans to practise your Spanish.

There are many plans that can be organised in such a lively city with so much to offer in terms of leisure and culture as Madrid: the sales, a February full of art, Carnival, open-air strolls with the smell of chestnuts, concerts, exhibitions, musicals, the best restaurants, etc. Let's take a look at some of them!

Winter plans in Madrid

If you are a shopaholic, practically all the shops are on sale. It's time to find unique discounts.

Do you like carnival? Although it is not the most popular city to celebrate this festival, there are plenty of activities to enjoy it. From Friday of Carnival to Ash Wednesday, Madrid surrenders year after year with parties and parades (25 Feb to 2 Mar 2022).

If you are a skier, Madrid has several snow resorts in the mountains. About 40 minutes from the centre you can visit Navacerrada or Valdesqui and enjoy the white sport, the winter sport par excellence.

Madrid has something for everyone. That's why the first Spanish fair dedicated to New Contemporary Art is back. It is the sixth edition and has a new name, UVNT Art Fair 2022 and will be held from 24 to 29 February at the Espacio COAM with those disciplines based on urban art such as post-graffiti, surrealist pop or new pop art.

Of course, gastronomy is a perfect plan to enjoy Madrid in winter. Madrid is a city full of unique places to eat. If you want to (and can) indulge yourself, these are the ones that have a Michelin star or have just been awarded one: https://www.esmadrid.com/restaurantes-con-estrella
