Watching series is an awesome way to learn a new language. We have gathered a selection of series available in Netflix for you to start watching and slowly grow your understanding of Spanish.
La casa de papel
You may have heard of La Casa De Papel (translated as Money Heist). It focuses on a band of criminals who are planning to a huge amount of money (euros from the Royal Mint of Spain). Many famous Spanish actors take part of this show, and it became a huge success when it was aired. Amazing series, great acting, direction and a suspenseful story to keep you on the edge of your seat. Very compelling watch, and you can learn useful phrases and some expressions of slang!
Velvet and El Tiempo Entre Costuras
Both Velvet and El Tiempo Entre Costuras (The Time In Between) are related to fashion. Set in the 1950s, Velvet centers on one of the major fashion houses of Madrid at the time, and the love story between the heir to the company and one of the seamstresses who works there. This show is a great way to pick up plenty of Spanish business language, too.
El Tiempo Entre Costuras is an excellent source of knowledge regarding Spanish history. It was filmed in Spain, Morocco, and Portugal with a huge budget per episode, so viewings and items of clothing are marvelous!
Vis a Vis
Macarena is a character who, because of trusting the wrong person, ends up in jail, where she encounters a host of very different and dangerous characters.
Paquita Salas
Paquita Salas tells the story of Paquita, who had a talent agenty back in the day before the loss of her biggest client caused everything to fall apart. Hilarious situations, nineties fashion style. You can some naughty language here. In the series, Paquita tries everything to secure new clientele. This main character is simply amazing! Don't miss this!
Elite
Three students from disadvantaged backgrounds gain entrance to an elite school on scholarships. Drama, love triangles, high class families with lots of internal struggles. What seems perfect at the beginning turns out to be even spooky when a crime is committed! very Madrid specific settings and accents.
Las Chicas Del Cable (Cable Girls)
A historical drama set in 1920s Madrid, female employees of Spain’s first national telephone company. It involves historical facts and political content such as the Women rights movement, and the Spanish Civil War.
El Ministerio Del Tiempo (The Ministry of Time)
A sci-fi show about a top-secret Spanish agency whose role is to send its officers through time to prevent criminals from changing the course of significant historical events. Lots of historical facts, witty conversations and cultural milestones.
Spanish-language Documentaries
Netflix offers a wide range of documentaries on various topics, from nature and wildlife to historical and cultural subjects, all in Spanish.
